And what, Socrates, is the food of the soul? Surely, I said, knowledge is the food of the soul...Plato

As students either high school, undergraduate or graduate, we tend to regard learning as a long row of quizzes, tests, and papers. Perhaps some of us are in school only to get that next job, or because we don't really know what else to do. Even if we regard school as just another step, we must find time to stop and smell the roses. I am talking about the roses of knowledge. We have to remember that knowledge is good for its own sake, and bits of truth lead us to ultimate Truth.

Even a non-believer can detect Truth, Beauty, and Goodness, although they might not know its Source. As believers, we have a special calling to study the beautiful, truthful, and good things of creation in light of a Creator. Even if you hate Economics or loathe poetry, there is always an opportunity to find God in any subject. I do not want to discredit how hard school work can be. The bottom line is: We are students, and right now we are called to study. So smell the roses every once in awhile and make sure you tip your hat to the gardener.

Now this is eternal life, that they should know You, the only one true God...John 17:3
