Encouragement

Amidst a society that is blissfully losing its moral compass, there is a vibrant group of young people that still believe in objective morality and try to live by it. I came in contact with these brave souls January 22nd, the day of The March for Life in Washington D.C.

I woke up early for the March for Life this year to sing at mass for the youth of the Archdiocese of New Orleans and a few youth groups from my diocese of Arlington, VA. The church was packed with people willing and ready to change the culture, and they were young! It made me think of St. Paul and his second letter to Timothy:

"Let no one look down on your youthfulness, but rather in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity, show yourself an example of those who believe." (New American Standard Bible)

After mass, all the kids piled in their buses and met the other 200,000 people that came to march for life. The day was blessed. The battle is not won, but I saw my generation ready to fight the good fight. I felt encouraged!

This encouragement is what helps me get through the good, the bad, and the ugly of being a young adult today. The March for Life is not the only meeting place for young Christians, and I would encourage each one of us to seek out a community, whether it is a Christian group at college, a young adult group at church, or even just frequent fellowship with a good Christian friend. Be encouraged; you're not alone.

We were born to unite with our fellow men, and to join in community with the human race. - Cicero
